Charity Fundraiser - Participants


A variety of charities participated in our paperback charity promotion. We donated $5 for paperback ordered by June 11, 2011. These charities are diverse in focus, and all are devoted to helping people improve their own lives and the lives of others by promoting science, education, and safety. We encourage you to give to these terrific charities.


Participating charities (in no particular order):


BMW MOA Foundation
The BMW MOA Foundation , a 501(c)3 organization, is the public educational arm of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. Donations to the BMW MOA Foundation will be directed to motorcycle rider education and training offered through the BMW MOA's Rider Performance University. Both single-vehicle motorycle accidents and collisions between cars and motorcycles often result from the illusion of attention. By better educating riders about the limits of attention, this foundation can help to reduce risks, save lives, and help riders have more fun!

Ready Readers
Ready Readers is a St. Louis-based nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring preschool children from low-income communities to become readers. Hundreds of trained, passionate volunteers read aloud to children every week, and the charity gives away more than 10,000 books every year to needy children. For many, these donated books are the only children's books in their households.

Neural Correlate Society
The Neural Correlate Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes scientific research into the neural correlates of sensory perception, awareness, and cognitive experience. The society is committed to promoting public knowledge about new scientific discoveries about cognition, the mind, and brain. By selecting this charity, you will help to support the annual Best Illusion contest as well as other events devoted to popular understanding of sensory and cognitive experience.

The James Randi Educational Foundation
The James Randi Educational Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes science and skepticism by challenging pseudoscientific claims. Through scholarships, workshops, and innovative resources for educators, the James Randi Educational Foundation works to inspire this investivative spirit in a new generation of critical thinkers.

The Innocence Project
The Innocence Project is a natioanl litigation and public policy nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. science and skepticism by challenging pseudoscientific claims.

The Autism Science Foundation
The Autism Science Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that supports autism research by providing funding and other assistance to scientists and organizations conducting autism research. They also provide information about autism to the general publci and serve to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and the needs of individuals and families affected by autism. The organization is premised on the the understanding that Autism has a strong genetic component, that early diagnosis and intervention are essnetial, and that vaccines do not cause autism.

Donors Choose
Donors Choose is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that supports school classrooms in need. Teachers can request materials for their classrooms, and donors can select projects they wish to support. Donations of any amount then go directly to those projects. If you select Donors Choose as your option, we will target those donations toward school projects that emphasize critical scientific thinking.

The Excellence in Investing for Children's Causes Foundation
The Excellence in Investing for Children's Causes Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that organizes the annual Excellence in Investing: San Francisco conference. The conference brings together some of the world's top investors and other prominent thinkers from Wall Street, Silicon Valley and everywhere in between. The speakers have generously agreed to share their time and ideas to benefit the foundation and the proceeds are donated to local and national education and other children's causes.

The Capital District Humanist Society
The Capital District Humanist Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that provides a supportive community in the greater Capital District of Albany New York in which freethinkers can share companionship, exchange ideas, heighten our knowledge of the world and ourselves, engage in social action, foster moral and ethical growth, and promote the principles of secular humanism.

KidsAndCars.org
KidsAndCars.org is a 501 (c)3 national nonprofit child safety organization dedicated to preventing injuries and death to children in and around motor vehicles; the number one killer of our children. KidsAndCars.org works to prevent these sudden and tragic events through data collection, education and public awareness, policy change, regulations and survivor advocacy. Donations received will be used to raise awareness and provide proactive safety information to parents and caregivers. Please help us to save the life of a child…..whose name we may never know.

Camp Rising Sun
Camp Rising Sun is the premier program of the Louis August Jonas Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)3. This International Full-Scholarship Program develops in promising young people from around the world, a lifelong commitment to sensitive and responsible leadership for the betterment of their communities and the world.

The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI)
NYSCI, a hands-on science and technology center, is a nonprofit educational institution where schoolchildren, teachers and families participate in programs that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity. NYSCI is a partner with schools and universities and a leading developer of new approaches to teaching and learning science. Founded at the 1964-65 World's Fair, NYSCI now welcomes a half million annual visitors and serves tens of thousands more through teacher preparation and school outreach programs.
